WIILIAM TETLEY & SON : PORTERS 1833 - 1835

Today`s post relates to the Porters brewed by Wm Tetley & Son from 1833 - 1835 . The brewery    which was to become Joshua Tetley & Sons was established Ca 1822; Presumably Joshua Tetley`s father William was the main leasee of the small brewery on Salem Place in Hunslet , Or acted as a guarantor when his Son Joshua established the brewing arm of the family`s business interests ,With his grandson Francis William Tetley joining the concern by 1833 when this ,The earliest known Tetley`s brewing record was written up .

The 1833 - 1835 Brewing book lists the gross weight in Bushels of Malt used and the weight in 
Pounds of the Hops used , with occasional references to Racking Hops where used / added . 
The Original Gravities are , generally given / stated but , on occasion they`re absent for the brew as an   ` entire gyle ` ; Consequently this meant I`ve had to compound the blend of two worts at different gravities ( where the gallons @ X Gravity are known / stated ) into ONE GYLE .                            

Sadly absent are the finite Mashing , Coppering and Yeast Pitch records ; Happily Some of the attenuation records are , present at the rear of the volume .

 Spread through the beginning and at the rear of the volume are records of Porter Blendings Viz , 
X Gallons of ( X ) Beer @ x Gravity to the Vat @ Let In point Prior to ageing ; 
This accounts for the visual disparity in A B V rating for each beers , as the addition of  a higher gravity Beer @ Let Down to Vat Point would , effectively be a Priming of the beer before further maturation until the point where the Beer in question was deemed fit for release by the brewery .
